Easter Program 2011- A Fascinating Event

It is with immense pleasure and profound joy we present before you a short report on our Easter program 2011 that was performed in an unprecedented scale with religious ceremonies and gala cultural festivities, on 25th April 2011, at St. Peter and Paul church parish hall Allschwil, Basel. It was a distinctive year for Swiss Malayalee Friends ( SMF ) being a step ahead for its diversity of programs and naturally the celebration was a unique one this year in every aspect, unlike in previous years.

The program started with con-celebrating of Holy Mass as usual, at 10.30 A.M by Fr.Saji Naduviledathu as the main celebrant, in which a choir group led by Mr.Thomas Muckomtharayil sang melodious devotional songs. Following the Mass, a delicious Kerala style Easter lunch was served and it was well appreciated by all for up keeping the traditional taste of homely food. SMF congratulates Mr. George Pulprayil and Mr. Roy Menacherry team for accomplishing this task with the help of a group of dedicated members and deserves to be commendable.

The cultural Festival was started at 2.30 P.M as scheduled, and was attended by a large number of people from all over the region. Coordinator of this year's Easter program Mr. Sunny Mankudiyil welcomed the gathering and presented a brief report regarding the conduct of the program and the efforts being made to make the event a memorable one for all the participants. In his Easter message Fr.Saji Naduviledathu highlighted the importance of Easter that comes to renew our minds and hearts with its spiritual gifts and to give us a new strength so as to persevere in conducting our duties in our society. It also inspires us to serve and love all our brothers and sisters, whatever religion or nationality they belong.

It is worth mentioning at this moment that SMF plays a vital role and makes a significant contribution in transforming the social life style of Malayalees in Switzerland. It is really encouraging to note that all Malayalees have created a culture of friendly co-existence and healthy competition. This healthy competition contributes a lot to develop the talents of the youth and also to make constructive contributions to the cultural growth of the entire community in general.

It was a great moment this year, as a committee member of SMF Mr. Mathews Kurian & Kochuthresia Punnathanam were honored in the stage on behalf of their son Zenon Mathews who was away and has been awarded PhD recently. By doing so, SMF has set an example in this direction for motivating the students of younger generation.

The cultural heritage of Tamil, Malayalam were presented in various dance and art forms. A smashing comedy skit choreographed and performed by a handful of talented people mostly from SMF, was greatly applauded. The spectators were mysteriously moved by the splendid performance. Another musical show (cinematic dance) performed by a group of young girls was amazing and created an inexplicable magic in the atmosphere and the vibration of the theme cast a spell on the audience, who were awesomely amused. A spectacular and perhaps the most astonishing event of this program was a tableau depicting the resurrection of Jesus Christ directed by Mr. George Pulprayil, and performed by Mr. Sunil Thalliyath and team was unique in its presentation and SMF has once again proved its dedication to diversify by introducing innovative programs every year. The children of SMF members were the main participants of the cultural programs. Prominent among those who attended the event were religious sisters, youth representatives and members of other organizations. Special congratulations goes to Coordinators who have indeed put a great effort and spent a lot of time & energy in organizing these programs and to make it a grand success.

The well organized cultural programs and celebrations were set rolling by 7 P.M, leaving behind many memorable scenes in the minds of participants. Various colorful melodious songs and dances were staged with great appreciation and applause from the audience. Another fascinating and thrilling performance in this event was a cinematic dance by a team of talented young artists, was greatly applauded by the audience. Apart from that, a number of talented artists staged dances in various forms and an astonishing magic show by a young boy have thrilled the audience with their magnificent performance.

Certainly a coordinated effort of all the committee members was necessary for an event of this dimension to put in to action and the wheels started rolling months in advance to get ourselves ready and to fulfill our commitment. We are indeed very happy for the positive feedback of fellow organizations and individuals who have extended their support and it gave us immense hope and confidence that enabled us to make this program a marvelous event.

The celebrations concluded after these spectacular events with a grand Tambola in which a number of attractive prizes including an Air ticket to Cochin, were distributed to the winners. Ms Anmary Kureekal & Ans Madassery moderated the program and Mr. Mathew Kureekal thanked the audience, for their whole-hearted support & cooperation.

Sunny Mankudiyil, Sunil Thalayath and Mathew Kureekal were the Coordinators of this year's Easter program.
